Not long before, with the advent of iPhone 3G S, the latest iPhone operating system iPhone OS 3.0 was released. It has a mass of evolutional features such as Quickly and easily cut, copy, and paste, Landscape Keyboard, MMS, Spotlight Search, Voice Memos, Improved Calendar, Enhanced Stocks App, Safari Improvements, Internet Tethering, Stereo Bluetooth, Automatic Wi-Fi Login, Sync Notes, MobileMe Find My iPhone and Remote Wipe, and so forth.
In a sense, those new features are a big leap in iPhone developing history. However, most of them just like a coin has both sides. Here is a classification of their pros and cons.
Pros
Spotlight Search for files and media is great. Camera functionality is now improved, with multiple photo attachments in email possible. The new landscape typing for SMS, notes, email and Safari are amazing, although it makes the screen look more cluttered. Voice Memos can capture a memo, a meeting, or any audio recording on the go. The Enhanced Stocks App helps you get more at-a-glance information and view charts in landscape.
My iPhone is an especially nifty addition – this GPS-utilizing app helps you locate a mislaid phone or in the event of actual loss, remote wipes all its data. As well, Internet Tethering means you can share your iPhone’s network connection with a PC or Mac via USB or Bluetooth – very handy in areas with low Wi-Fi signal if you don’t own a mobile broadband dongle.
Cons
Copy and paste is a much needed feature that we’re glad Apple has finally included. Unfortunately, options to cut, copy or paste pop up unwanted a little too often, and we’re not sure the function works better than in third-party downloadable versions like Clippy.
And though the software upgrade is free, you have to pay to use My iPhone, while the new ’shake to shuffle or undo’ feature is superfluous and gimmicky.
What’s worse, some functions can only be realized on iPhone 3G S, includes video-recording and faster processing time.
Nothing is infallible. iPhone OS 3.0’s pros are far outweighing its cons. It will become more prefect based on present disadvantages which will stimulate developers have more determination and creativity on iPhone. Let’s hope for its amazing performance.
